It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
